We kick the year off with our annual Miss Wesley Chapel Pageant. Now in its 10th year, more and more young women from all over Pasco County compete for the title of "Miss Wesley Chapel". Contestants must first meet rigorous academic and community service requirements. This event is fast becoming known for the future success of the young ladies who participate.
Join us for a morning of fun in March at our 5th Annual Sporting Clay Shoot held on the wooded property of Deer Creek Sporting Clays. Sporting clays is one of the fastest growing gun sports in the United States.. Whether you are an experienced shooter or have never shot before, the Shoot offers a day of safe, supervised shooting and friendly competition. This event helps fund our Student Pride Awards Breakfast where scholarships are awarded annually to nominated Wesley Chapel high school seniors who show pride in their school and contribute to their community.
March also kicks off our annual "Honorary" Mayor's Race. Every Chamber member has a chance to run for "Honorary" Mayor of Wesley Chapel. Candidates raise money through hosting events and finding businesses and individuals to support their campaign in various creative ways. Every dollar raised counts as a vote. The candidate getting the most "votes" is declared "Honorary Mayor while the runner up earns the title of "Honorary" Deputy Mayor. The newest "Honorary" Mayor is presented with a key to the city at the "Honorary" Mayor's Inauguration in July. These honorary officials also serve as official representatives at Chamber and community events throughout their term.
Art and culture is part of our permanent roster of events as we host our 3rd Annual Fine Arts Show. The Wesley Chapel's 2009 Celebration of the Arts, which was held in April at the new Shops at Wiregrass, was a tremendous success. Fine Artists and Craftamen, from as far north as Ohio and as far south as Fort Lauderdale, proudly displayed their work and craftsmanship. Local musicians performed throughout the two-day event with Stacey Knights opening for Mike Mac Arthur and the Shawn Brown Band during the evening Jazz Fest on Saturday. This year's event will be held on April 10th and 11th, again in the Shops at Wiregrass.
The month of May hosts an event we are very proud of - The Student Pride Awards Breakfast. Each year, outstanding students and athletes from each Wesley Chapel school are chosen to be honored for their school pride and community involvement, as well as athletic excellence. Chamber members work together with the schools to plan and sponsor this event. During the breakfast, the Chamber is very pleased to award scholarships to qualifying HS seniors who are chosen by their schools.
A time of celebration arrives in September when we host our Chamber Annual Awards Banquet and Installation of Officers. The Chamber brings people together with fun themes each year as it installs the newly elected Board of Directors. In addition, special awards are presented to individuals and businesses who distinguish themselves in the community. These individuals and businesses must meet certain nomination criteria and the membership cast their votes for the winners. This is the Chamber's "Who's Who" media event of the year.
In October, we host our annual Craft Show. This newest event is a fun event for the whole family and an opportunity to shop for the holidays. As with many of our community events, we will also provide an opportunity to meet and greet many of our local business owners/managers and browse their products and services.
We have watched Wesley Chapel grow in the area of health and wellness with many health care professionals and businesses (including our own Wesley Chapel Health Center) setting up practice in the community. We are joining forces with these health practitioners and wellness-minded businesses to give you Wesley Chapel's first Health & Wellness Fair and 5K Run. This event will provide many free health screenings for the whole family, free health seminars and healthy family fun.
On the first Saturday in December, the year winds down with the Chamber joining local businesses, and non-profit organizations for our Holiday Festival and Christmas Tree Lighting. Local schools, places of worship, clubs and organizations bring their talent to the stage with holiday music. The evening ends with a gathering around the beautifully decorated Christmas tree for the "Lighting of the Tree" and a reading of The Night Before Christmas. With holiday spirit, local businesses and organizations give back to Wesley Chapel residents.
The Greater Wesley Chapel Chamber has one goal - helping our community and member businesses thrive! We welcome you to our Chamber and want you to experience all the wonder and opportunity that Wesley Chapel has to offer.
